Battle of the Wine (Batalla del Vino)
The Battle of the Wine held in the city of Haro, Spain's Rioja region, at the end of June every year, symbolizes a past dispute with a neighboring village over the ownership of the Bilibios Mountains.
After a giant village mass and a procession to the hills about 10,000 revellers spill, spritz, and splash each other with 40,000 litres of red wine (the grapes have already been squished and fermented).
Participants arrive dressed in all white but leave totally lavender-coloured (and hopefully not too drunk.....).
