A Tale of Two Christmases

My wife recently said to me, “I’m tired of the usual Christmases with all the cooking and washing up. I don’t want to have to think about what to cook next, buying the cheap Christmas party hats, somehow fitting all the food in the fridge and swatting the flies off the half eaten dinner plates. I want something more than just being a kitchen slave to squabbling relatives and freeloaders, constantly taking out the rubbish and I’m sick of all the boring, incessant repeats of ‘Indiana Jones movies’ on the television.

I want a real Christmas. For once I want to be looked after. Me. I want to relax and savour the true festive spirit, to really laugh and enjoy good company and let someone else do all the planning and hard work. I want time to dress for dinner and let someone else set the table and serve me. I want a Christmas I’ll always remember. One with some style, romance and nostalgia.

I close my eyes and imagine my next Christmas Day waking up under a crisp, thick doona in an 800 year old Coaching Inn oozing nostalgia deep in the heart of the snow covered mountains of Austria. Or taking a sleigh ride and sipping steaming goulash by Mad King Ludwig’s Bavarian fairytale castle.”

Sounds like a Christmas Fairytale? You can ‘live it’ next year by joining one of our 17 different, tempting Christmas and New Year Tours that focus on Romantic Germany, Switzerland, the Austrian Tyrol, Slovenia, Italy and the capital cities of Paris and London.

Designed specifically for the Australian traveller, each tour usually starts with in depth visits to the more major cities but then, as Christmas approaches, they escape to the forest covered mountains, medieval castles and nostalgic, selected (first class) smaller hotels for 3, 4, 5 or 7 nights to capture that essential European Winter Magic. To enjoy sleigh rides and festive Christmas markets with clusters of wooden stalls selling mulled wine, ginger biscuits, hand crafted toys and decorations in cobble stoned medieval villages. Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, carols, brass bands and crowds of locals intent on laughter and happiness.

Imagine all those picture perfect Christmas Cards with snow covered forest paths, merry crowds and pink cheeked, laughing children wrapped in bright red scarves and woollen hats.  Isn’t it about time you enjoyed Christmas the way it should be?
