What tour did you travel on?

Black Forest, Bavaria & the Tyrol.

When did you travel?

September 2019

Why did you select this particular tour?

I had visited Frankfurt when I was 17 years old, I'm now 76 and remember being quite impressed with all the various stores. I stayed with a pen-friend & his family took me on many trips to the local countryside, so I guess choosing this tour, I was trying to relive a part of my youth again and what an excellent choice the tour turned out to be, as the weather was almost perfect, the scenery spectacular, the food delicious and the other members of the tour were most congenial, so all in all it was a very pleasant experience. Our tour guide Katia was most professional, but down to earth with everyone, extremely knowledgeable and we all got on like a house on fire, so a very special couple of weeks, that will stay in my memory forever.

 Who did you travel with?

I travelled alone.

Have you travelled with us previously?

This was my first Albatross Tour.

What was your favourite place/s on your Albatross tour?

I loved it all, every day was an new adventure, the scenery was picture post card and the gardens on the Flower Island of Mainau were simply beautiful, having a local guide for the visit, made it all the more interesting.  Enjoying the market in Freiburg was a treat and the cruise on Lake Titisee most relaxing.  King Ludwig's Linderhof Palace was absolutely amazing and had to be seen to be believed, he did love gold, the more the merrier and the Meissen porcelain surrounding the frames of the mirrors was exquisite.

What was the most amazing thing you saw or did on your Albatross tour?

Taking the cable car ride to the top of the mountain in Tegelberg. Sadly the view to die for, that we were expecting, didn't eventuate, as the clouds closed in. The ride down made up for it though.  I also loved the chair lift ride that I took in 'My Time' in Fussen. It was a lovely day and just sitting quietly when I got to the top of the mountain, soaking up the magnificent scenery was perfect, as it was the 23rd anniversary since my late husband passed away and I felt he was there sharing the moment with me.

Tell us about your most memorable moment on tour?

Watching the cows returning from the mountains in Hohenschwangau. We had just visited Neuschwanstein Castle and for Katia to tell us we would enjoy the sight of all the decorated cows, together with their handlers, both men and women in traditional costumes, was definitely a case of being in the right place on the right day.

What was your favourite meal on tour?

Definitely the pork knuckle, sauerkraut and dumpling, certainly not for the faint hearted, but so delicious.  For dessert, apple streudel with vanilla sauce, the one in Mayrhofen was the tastiest, but really, they were all yummy.

What advice do you have for anyone interested in travelling on this tour?

If you love to walk, it's perfect, as there's lots of it. I took a collapsable walking stick, which proved most helpful. Having had a bad knee from being a teenager, I found some days challenging, but Katia was most kind & happy for me to arrive sometimes, a little later than all the others.

Would you recommend this tour to family and friends?

I certainly will, we were blessed with beautiful Autumn weather, the scenery was spectacular, the hotels very comfortable, food delicious and I met some lovely people, as well as Katia and our excellent driver Markus, he was fantastic.
