Traveller Story: Kim's Fairytale New Year in Bavaria

What tour did you travel on?

A Bavarian Fairytale New Year in December 2019

Why did you select this particular tour?

This tour really appealed to me as I could spend Christmas at home, and still experience the festive atmosphere in Europe and see three amazing castles.

What was your favourite place on your Albatross tour?

My favourite place was Fussen. I really enjoyed walking around this picturesque town, admiring the beautiful buildings. We had a few hours to explore, and then I stopped at a quaint café for lunch. I had a lovely bowl of soup served with a piece of crusty bread – the bread in Europe is simply delicious!

I also really enjoyed Oberammergau. I was really interested in exploring this town made famous by the Oberammergau Passion Play. I loved the painted buildings, so beautifully decorated.

What was the most amazing thing you saw or did on your Albatross tour?

Our New Year’s Eve dinner at the hotel and the midnight fireworks was spectacular! Dinner was served in the grand function room of the hotel and consisted of five delicious courses paired with wine. There was a fantastic atmosphere over dinner with music and entertainers. At midnight we went outside to watch the fireworks, and afterward, we danced the night away.

I also loved taking in the view of the castles as we travelled up by cable car to Tegelberg. At the top, we enjoyed the 360-degree views from the restaurant while enjoying a lovely strudel and hot chocolate!

Tell us about your most memorable moment on tour?

My most memorable moment was taking in the views of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles from the excellent vantage point, just a short walk around the lake from our hotel. It is the best place to capture a photo of both castles.

What was your favourite meal on the tour?

All of the meals at our hotel in Hohenschwangau were of a very high standard. We had 3 courses each night and were treated to a lychee champagne cocktail before dinner.

What advice do you have for anyone interested in travelling on this tour?

Comfortable shoes are a must. There is a bit of walking on this tour, particularly when exploring the villages and castles. Make sure your shoes are also waterproof and enclosed as we experienced snow at the top of Tegelberg.

Would you recommend this tour to family and friends? If so, why?

Yes definitely. I loved the 5 nights in one place and the beautiful sightseeing that was included on this tour.
