Romania

Romania blends storybook castles and medieval citadels with wild Carpathian peaks, forested valleys, and a sliver of Black Sea coast. From Bucharest’s grand boulevards and Belle Époque façades to Transylvania’s Saxon towns and fortified churches, the country rewards slow, curious travel.

At the crossroads of Central and Eastern Europe, travelers find cobbled old towns, painted monasteries, and a lively café culture. Pick a region or two such as Transylvania, Maramureș, Bucovina, or the Danube Delta and go deep.

Best Time to Visit Romania

The sweetest windows are spring from May to June and early autumn from September to October. These months bring moderate temperatures, lighter crowds, and clear conditions for cities and nature. Summer is warm to hot which is great for mountains and the coast. Winters bring snow to higher regions and slower rural travel.

  • Summer from July to August: Long sunny days and busy periods at castles and in mountain towns.
  • Winter from December to March: Snow in the Carpathians and occasional transport impacts in rural areas.
